3 Key Priorities to be addressed for Effective ERP End-User Training

Investing hard work or smart work or a blend of both and a sizeable Capital to bring together the successful implementation of an ERP has a high probability rate of being brought to naught if the end-user training is not given the focus it deserves. If the operational proficiency of the ERP end-user is neglected, the very system built to drive the business towards progress may digress from the motive and ultimately wreck the business edifice itself.

Three aspects, though trivial, are key factors that should be meticulously addressed to rule out the setbacks that are bound to rise due to the lapse in ERP end-user training.
1. Budget Allocation
Researches reveal that the businesses that "spend less than 13% of their total ERP cost on training are "three times more likely to exceed deadlines and run over budgets, compared to organizations that spend 17% or more". This inference reveals that if businesses would ensure the appropriation of a sizeable amount of the investment on ERP for the end-user oriented expenses, it shall certainly enlighten the end-user to welcome the 'Change' and better the ROI.

2. Real-time Hands-On Training
ERP end-user training should start with the tech-savvy staff members, at least one from each department of the core deployment. The personnel thus identified should be trained in the real-time business scenario with real data and through real processes without the benefit of a virtual set-up or User Manuals. Such hands-on practice will consume the trial and error phase during the implementation stage itself.

So, a mono-dimensional training for such a multi-faceted solution is not justified. The best way to overcome this hurdle is to go for role-based training to achieve intra-departmental excellence. Such diverse training should be marginally merged at strategic junctures to derive inter-departmental finesse.
